Dallas Cowboys Named One Of NFL’s Most Overrated Teams
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys have been one of the most ridiculed teams in the NFL this offseason, so you wouldn’t think of them as an overrated squad heading into 2024.

However, the Cowboys have +700 odds to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, which is tied for third in the conference. So, people still think Dallas is good.

But Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon thinks the Cowboys belong in the “overrated” category.

Kenyon doesn’t doubt that Dallas will win 10-plus games and capture another NFC East division title. But he does doubt that the Cowboys will do much of anything in the playoffs.

Such has been the case for Dallas the past several seasons, and really the last three decades.

The Cowboys have registered three straight 12-win campaigns, nailing down a couple of division crowns during that span. However, they have won just one playoff game these last three years and were last seen getting run out of their own building in a 48-32 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round back in January.

That in spite of the fact that some had Dallas pegged as a legitimate Super Bowl contender heading into these most recent playoffs, and it was hard to blame the fans and pundits who thought so.

The Cowboys certainly played the part during the regular season. Dak Prescott led the NFL with 36 touchdown passes. CeeDee Lamb was one of the best receivers in football. The defense was dominant.

But all of that fell apart when the stakes were highest, as Jordan Love and the Packers went into AT&T Stadium and essentially ended Dallas’ season by halftime.

The Cowboys have not made it past the Divisional Round since January 1996, and they have collected a grand total of four playoff wins ever since then. For a franchise known as “America’s Team,” that is certainly an embarrassing distinction.

On the bright side, in spite of the odds, most do not have incredibly high expectations for Dallas heading into 2024. Some even think the Cowboys will miss the postseason entirely.

Perhaps flying under the radar is exactly what Dallas needs with training camp just around the corner.
